Girl, 8, Faces Felony Car Burglary Charges

An unidentified 8-year-old girl was recently hit with felony burglary charges for allegedly breaking into cars in Palm Bay, Florida.

According to a police report, the girl was caught on surveillance video by one of the victims, notes WESH.

Police questioned the girl at Jupiter Elementary School, and she reportedly told them that she was walking with two older kids in a park when they made the decision to break into the vehicles.

The girl was charged with attempted theft and burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.

Lt. Mike Bandish, a police spokesman, said: “It is a felony. There has to be a charge. Also, my understanding is that she was not placed in a lock-up situation,” reports FLORIDA TODAY.

The girl will have to appear in front of a juvenile court judge on June 2. The judge will decide if the child is delinquent, or should be sentenced to a state program for youths.

“Normally, you see kids start this kind of activity when they’re older, maybe 14 or 15 years old,” Bandish added.

The 8-year-old girl was shown the video, and she named a 13-year-old boy and a second girl.

The video showed the three kids approaching the video, but the second girl ran away from the car and did not actively take part in the crime, according to police. She reportedly tried to talk the youngest girl out of the act.

The surveillance video reportedly showed the 8-year-old girl opening a driver’s side door of a car.

“They had a flashlight and were rummaging through the car,” Bandish explained.

The boy was subsequently charged with burglary of a conveyance.

According to police, the kids broke into four cars, reports WESH.

FLORIDA TODAY notes the cops talked to the 8-year-old’s mother at the family home, and the mom confirmed that her daughter was in the video.

In another bizarre Florida incident, WKMG reports that Brian Keith Olmstead was charged with child neglect after going on a drunken rage though Walt Disney World’s Art of Animation Resort resort on May 14.

Olmstead allegedly used his child’s stroller to plow through crowds at the resort, and spouted off racial slurs.

Resort managers reportedly received 11 complains in just four hours about Olmstead’s alleged behavior.

Olmstead’s wife recalled to Orange County sheriff’s investigators how they began the fateful day at a cheerleading competition at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.

The wife said Olmstead left with their young son to go back to the resort.

According to witnesses, Olmstead drank himself into “a state of intoxication” at a bar near a pool, while his child sat in a stroller.

Olmstead was escorted back to his room, according to a resort manager, but came back to the food area where several bystanders said he threatened them.

Deputies noted that Olmstead’s son was found in a dirty diaper, which he had sat in for hours, and was badly sunburned.
